CAMBERLEY & DISTRICT ATHLETIC CLUB –TRACK & FIELD FIXTURES 2008
The Club pays your fees for league fixtures. As a member, the aim is to work on your own performance and hopefully your personal bests, score points for the club team & help to raise league performance. Athletes compete in up to four events, usually three individual events & a relay. As Club members athletes’ responsibility is to compete in as many of the league fixtures as possible and this forms part of the training offered by your qualified coaches.
The County Championships, with the exception of county schools, and the South of England Championships are events that athletes enter and pay for individually and compete representing the Club. These events usually have heats & finals with medals awarded to the top three finalists. Athletes can compete in a maximum of three events per day.

ATHLETICS – OPEN MEETINGS
Open meetings are events put on by clubs at their own track. They can be used as fundraisers for their clubs but often provide events to age groups that are not generally available within the league fixture programme. You enter & pay for these meetings as an individual, representing your club. In open meetings there are sometimes heats & finals with medals rewarded for the top three finalists. You can compete in a maximum of three events per day and should always wear your club vest.
Open graded meetings are also events organised by clubs at their own track. You enter & pay for these meetings as an individual, representing your club. The word ‘graded’ tells you that both track & field entrants may contain both males & females of different age groups. On the track, athletes are put into heats according to their previous personal best time, & so will be running against other athletes with a similar time, regardless of gender or age. They are particularly good events for athletes achieving at the upper end of expectation for their age group as it allows them to compete against a field full of other athletes of similar ability, providing them with a real challenge. Equally, for an athlete wishing to try out a new event for the first time, they will find themselves with athletes at a similar level, rather than being overwhelmed by athletes experienced at that particular event! Again, you always wear your club vest.
Please ask your Team Manager for advice on what to enter & for details of your PB’s, or potential times if entering an event new to you.
